  • About Us

Baxter Primary School, established in 1965, has been a cornerstone of the Baxter, Tennessee community for decades. The school serves students from Pre-K through 1st grade, with a current enrollment of approximately 350 students. Nestled in the heart of Baxter, the school serves a diverse student population reflective of the community's unique demographic composition. The town of Baxter, with its rich historical roots and close-knit community, is characterized by a blend of both longstanding residents and newer families attracted to the area's charm and affordability. The school itself mirrors this mix, with students from a variety of socioeconomic backgrounds. Around 70% of the students come from low-income households, qualifying for free or reduced lunch programs, and there is a growing number of English Language Learners (ELL) representing various cultural backgrounds. This diversity fosters a rich educational environment where cultural exchange and mutual understanding are part of the daily experience. Baxter Primary School is committed to meeting the needs of all its students, ensuring that each child receives a high-quality education regardless of their background.

The school boasts a dedicated team of educators and staff who are passionate about fostering a love of learning in young children. With a current enrollment of approximately 350 students and a student-to-teacher ratio of 21:1, Baxter Primary ensures that each child receives personalized attention and support. The school offers a range of programs designed to support academic achievement and personal growth, including special education services, a comprehensive ELL program, and enrichment activities in art, music, and physical education. Technology integration is also a key focus, with classrooms equipped with modern learning tools to enhance the educational experience. Baxter Primary School’s commitment to excellence is evident in its continuous efforts to adapt and innovate in response to the evolving needs of its students.

The community of Baxter is deeply invested in the success of Baxter Primary School, evidenced by the strong involvement of parents and local organizations in school activities and initiatives. Local businesses, civic groups, and residents regularly collaborate with the school, providing resources, support, and opportunities for students. This strong community support enhances the educational experience, creating a network of care and encouragement that extends beyond the classroom. Events such as community fairs, school fundraisers, and volunteer programs are a testament to the town's commitment to fostering a nurturing and supportive environment for its young learners. Baxter Primary School benefits from its location in a community that values education and personal development, focusing not only on academic excellence but also on character building, social skills, and community engagement. This holistic approach prepares students to be responsible, well-rounded individuals, making Baxter Primary School a cornerstone of the community where children are encouraged to thrive both academically and personally.

  • Administration

Welcome to Baxter Primary School! I am very excited about beginning my eighth year as the Principal of BPS!  As the leader of our school, I look forward to working with everyone in the community to make Baxter Primary a place where everyone can experience success--and where we can have fun doing it!  I believe that the school should be a welcoming environment, where parents are encouraged to participate in their child’s education.  Together with our families and teachers, we will make BPS a school where all students excel academically, where they feel cared for and nurtured in every way.

My specific goals for BPS include the following:

    • To provide an education that allows students to perform at high levels, using instructional strategies that are engaging and student-centered.
    • To establish a safe and welcoming environment, where parents and families are comfortable at all times.  We want everyone to be involved--whether it’s coming to eat lunch with your child, or feeling empowered to call and express a concern about a particular situation.
    • To establish high expectations that are clearly defined and communicated, and that are modeled by everyone in the building, beginning with me.  These expectations will apply to both student academics and conduct.
    • To make BPS a happy place to be!

The heart and focus of everything we do is for the children. We want to make sure we are meeting the students' needs academically, socially and emotionally.

If you ever have any questions or concerns, please feel free to reach out to me via phone or email.  We look forward to creating a partnership with you and watching your students soar during their time at our school!
