MEMORANDUM FOR Parent(s) and/or Guardian(s)
SUBJECT: Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (JROTC) Student Activities
1. We would like to take this opportunity to tell you a little about what your student will be doing this semester in their JROTC class. Our charter is to make students better citizens and productive members of the community allowing them the opportunity to continue their growth and achieve their goals in life through leadership, education, discipline, motivation, and last but not least, hard work on their part. We are not here to persuade your student to join the military; however, several students in the past have joined and are quite successful as a result of their efforts within this class. Additionally, some students after taking this class have even changed their minds and decided to go to college and/or technical school to further their education and achieve their dreams in life. Above all, we care and want what’s best for them.
2. The JROTC curriculum consists of several programs of instruction. Madatory classes consist of six (6) major blocks: Character and Leadership Development; Leadership Theory and Application; Foundations for Success; Wellness, Fitness, and First Aid; Geography and Earth Science; and Citizenship and American History. These six areas complement students required secondary education curriculum and focus on the development of making better citizens through the instruction of skills in leadership, citizenship, life success, geography, and wellness, in a structured interactive environment. Also, our JROTC program will teach additional required and optional topics within: Career Opportunities, Computer Training; Financial Planning; Physical Training; and Community Service Learning Projects.
3. We stress the importance of seven (7) values through a simple acronym for Leadership:
Loyalty
Duty
Respect
Selfless service
Honor
Integrity
Personal Courage4. It is an honor and privilege to be a part of your student’s life. We look forward to meeting you in the near future and please call if you ever have a question, 520-2138 or 520-2169.
